About this Blog

FRESH is the blog, not about language, but about language and power.  We are dedicated to the principals first so well articulated by George Orwell in his essay “Politics and the English language.”  That’s where the title FRESH comes from.  Web search the essay for yourself.

The battle for control – control of money, control of people, control of you – begins with the fight over who gets to label.  Do you support the “inheritance tax” but oppose the “death tax”? Is “outsourcing” one way to say “global supply chain”?  Are you against more “taxes” but for “long-term investments” in government programs?  “Pro choice” or “pro abortion”?  These examples are obvious as we point them out because we want to be clear about our mission.  Posts address the power of language that may not be so easy to discern.

Posts are often timely.  But if you are coming to the Blog late, still take a look around.  Most posts address the timeless.  It’s worth taking a broad look at the information.

We’ll be looking at language and power in politics.  However, humor in everyday language interests us currently because of the new eBook “Funny Business.”

Read George.
